Arielle Michele Catanzaro (born March 9, 1982 as Arielle Michele Fishman) is a Canadian actress, screenwriter, director, voice actress and film producer. She attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where she majored in Biochemistry and Mathematics before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting as well as screenwriting, and is also where she met her many time collaborators. Catanzaro is most known for her role on Orphan Black and the highly praised Sundance star with the films Another Earth (2011), Sound of My Voice (2011) and The East (2013), all of which she co-wrote, produced and starred in. As a voice actress, she is most known for her work on Silent Hill and Infamous. Most notably, she played the role of Ellie in the 2013 video game The Last of Us, and its 2014 sequel The Last of Us: Left Behind.

early life It was one of the most difficult things to happen to Sara, having to raise two children by herself at such a young age, having had Marcus when she was only 17 years old, and Arielle when she was newly 21. It wasn't ideal, and it wasn't exactly easy, either. She put a lot of hard work into taking care of her two children, wanting to give them the best that they could possibly have, despite the fact that there were likely not the funds for it. When Arielle had expressed an interest in dance, she had enrolled her child in ballet classes. It was there that Sara had met Pierre Catanzaro, a man almost ten years older than her, that was doing some light construction on the building that offered the classes for the young children.

It may not have been love at first sight, but it was exactly what Sara had always dreamt of having in her life. She had always wanted to find someone that could take care of not only her, but of her two children. In the beginning, it was rough, but it did not take her long to fall in love with the man that could build her dreams up from the ground by hand. The two were married in less than six months in 1986, and that was it. Sara became a mother and a wife. The biggest thing, and the most important decider on things had been her two children and how much they loved him. He was the light of their lives. Arielle was 4 at the time and had no problems in wanting to be a part of the Catanzaro family, the same with Marcus. To this day, she considers Pierre to be her real dad, not the man that donated the sperm to create her all those years ago.

For so many years, Arielle was the best doting little daughter that she could be, wanting to make her family happy and also wanting to continue to be happy. The Catanzaro family really was happy and there was nothing that anyone could change about that. In school, Arielle had been the best student that she could be, always pushing herself toward being the best that she could be with doing all that she could. She had always been a good student and a good child. She loved to learn, but more than that, she had a complete and utter fascination with space and science, though there were times when she would find herself wishing she could write science fiction stories, something that would catch up with her as she grew up and got older.

education When she was 16 years old, Arielle Catanzaro graduated from high school as the valedictorian of her class, despite being two years younger than all of her peers at the time. She had tested higher in her early grades and bumped up two grades ahead of the children her own age when she was in first grade (because she had been reading at a fifth grade level at such a young age), which had caused much turmoil for her when she was younger. It wasn't until she was in high school that she embraced it and did her best, wanting to get into an American school and the best way would be for her to get good grades and as many scholarships that she could find that she could and would be eligible for and applying for them.

In 1998, Arielle Catanzaro was admitted to Georgetown University where she double-majored in Biochemistry and Mathematics, with a minor in Cognitive Sciences. It was a long four years, but she graduated at the age of 20 in 2002, having taken as many classes as was possible. She had worked hard all the while, putting forth all her efforts to get through all of her courses. She'd even put in time for getting an internship that would last beyond her graduation date, wanting to work in research, though something had happened in her senior year at the University that had caused that to change so easily without even trying, simply because Arielle knew that she could do anything she put her mind to, and the tiny "entertainer" in her wanted to shine.

In fact, it had changed her mind from wanting to go from the research ability and she didn't really want to go into medical school, or even to do anything like that -- instead, she wanted to become an actress, though at the time, she had truly wanted to become a writer instead and the best place to do that, she'd been convinced, was in Hollywood. That was the place where dreams could be made, where they could flourish. And, if all else failed, at least she had her degrees to fall back on.

career Arielle moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2002 when she was 20 years old, traveling with friends and eventually moving into a two bedroom apartment with both of the men that she had met at college, both that had the same exact dream (or, well, newly made dream of Arielle's) of writing and doing something. It took an entire year for the group to figure out what they wanted to end up doing and, in the end, they had travelled to Cuba to execute the documentary they had been writing, Boxers and Ballerinas, which was released in 2004. It was her very first work in the world of filmography! It was something she not only helped write, but also helped direct, edit and helped do the cinematography for it. It was a work of art, something that she would always be proud of working on, even if it didn't come with a degree from a private university.

It took her three years to keep going for things. She started to act among other things which included doing a guest spot on "Gilmore Girls" (which was just one episode, but it was a show that she loved and was excited to be on, even if it was just the simplicity of one episode) in 2006, though for the most part, she had begun to stick with shorts until 2008 when she was cast as the guest role of Amy Burley on "True Blood"! It was just a six-episode part, but it was a good one! She'd read the book, and though it wasn't the best, the story was really good regardless and it was also a stepping stone of getting somewhere with her career. She'd also begun doing voice acting work, having a guest part on "The Simpsons" and doing her very first video game voice roles on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Ghostbusters (though it was uncredited to her at the time). That same year, she filmed her very first full feature film, though it was Independent and was not something that everyone saw, she still saw it as a huge stepping stone, not to mention her guest stint on "Mad Men" for just 6 episodes. Her year was packed, but it was wonderful going from place to place, and thing to thing.

Over the next three years, Arielle participated in several different things, ranging from video games and more independent films! They were all jam packed, but the films that she got to be a part of were things that she had written over the years! Her space and alien stories, her time travel stories, everything. They were all that she had dreamt of doing, and though the films took mere weeks to film, it felt like a lifetime coming to pass because she was doing what she truly loved! She was sharing what she loved with new people and got to perform to her liking, even though they were not exactly things that everyone would want to eventually see, but they were beautiful to her and had taken her to Sundance yet again with the films, though some were just small parts, aside from the two that she had written and produced.

The biggest year, though, was 2013 when she was cast in the main roles on the Space/BBC America television program "Orphan Black", which came to be the thing that she was most known for doing, even though it wasn't something that she wrote herself -- it was still dear to her heart, because it was something that she could openly delve into and put herself through, make sure that she was in the know with everything that happened with the program. Her opinion mattered and she did, in fact, get to give ideas on the clones and had different mannerisms for each clone and they were always performed differently no matter what. That same year, a video game that she had been part of (that started work in 2009, actually) was finally released after so many years of the hard work that was put into it: The Last of Us, a futuristic video game centered around a man who had to take a 14 year old girl, Ellie (voiced and performed by Catanzaro -- at least in the cut-scenes), across the country and day to day faced zombies and the deterioration of human life. It was the main reason why she had taken the role in the first place!

Arielle Catanzaro fully put herself out there for each of her performances, even if they were just vocal performances in a video game. She did so many at that point, that it just made the "inner nerd" in her come out whenever she got the chance to talk about them. In 2014, she was part of the inFAMOUS video games, giving her voice to Abigail "Fetch" Walker in both Second Son and First Light, the latter of which was a focus on the character Fetch. It was the second time she had worked with the voice actor that portrayed the voice of Joel (The Last of Us) and Delsin (inFAMOUS), someone that she felt she did mesh well with in general in many ways. There was much chemistry between the two and it was wonderful to work together in general. She also was part of the video game series Dragon Age giving voice to Bianca Davra, Dagna, and various other minor characters here and there in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

current projects Arielle Catanzaro not only continues to work on "Orphan Black" (season 3 premiere to be April 18th, 2015, on Space or BBC America and several other television channels), but there are also several of her projects being released this year: Woman in Gold, which she filmed back-to-back with Jurassic World, featuring her most notable obsession after space: dinosaurs. She also gave her voice to additional parts in the video game The Order: 1886.

Currently, Arielle Catanzaro is filming the indie film Two Lovers and a Bear, which is to be released next year.

future projects In late 2014, Catanzaro had been rumored to be joining the ranks of those that had been part of Star Wars in a spin-off untitled Star Wars film. It had been true that she had auditioned for a role, wanting to give more to the space variety (something that she honestly was obsessed with), but also wanting to do something that she had been a fan of all of her life! In early 2015, she had been announced as one of the final actresses up for the untitled role. It was not guaranteed, though her Clone Club fans pushed for her to get the role (of course, when they weren't upset at her losses during award season).

However, in mid-March 2015, Arielle Catanzaro was announced as the top candidate, her management confirming her role in the 2016 Untitled Star Wars Spin-Off film, which would eventually be named Rogue One. Her character and role is still unknown at this time.

personal life She was married briefly to fellow actor, whatevertheir namewillbe, on May 19, 2007, in London, Ontario, Canada, where she is from. Catanzaro filed for divorce in the Spring of 2010, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple had no children together, despite trying for a child for the entire three years that they were married, which is the speculation as to why Catanzaro ended the relationship.

Arielle is currently not in a relationship, though during interviews if asked about her private life, she will state that she is "married to the job" due to her 17 hour days filming Orphan Black.

She is a huge supporter of LGBT Rights and has spoken out several times about her support.

She currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a majority of the time due to her commitments to Orphan Black, though she does travel quite often to Los Angeles and New York City.

facts
  • Although her mother is Jewish, she does not practice nearly as much as her family does. Her father, Pierre, is a Catholic born man, but she (among her older brother and mother) does practice Catholicism to an extent over Judaism. When she goes home, Arielle tends to be more religious than she is in practice in her day-to-day life. Despite this, she celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah as she has not settled with one religion. She does believe in God, but does not have a sole religion that she identifies with anymore. If she had to choose, it would likely be that she would stay with her Jewish roots.
  • Arielle Catanzaro was born Arielle Michele Fishman, because her mother was not married to her biological father when she was born; however, when Arielle was four years old, her mother changed her surname (as well as her brother Marcus) to Catanzaro because they were a family, and neither Arielle or Marcus objected to this. Her older brother, Marcus, does not have the same father that Arielle does, either. This is not something that she talks about or even acknowledges because, to her, her father is 62 year old contractor Pierre Catanzaro from Genoa, Italy, and not someone that she has never met in her entire life. She considers all three of her brothers to be her biological family because of this, and never speaks differently about it.
  • Overall, the Catanzaro consists of Pierre and Sara, parents, as well as the four children: Marcus (37), Arielle (33), Sebastian (25) and Ansel (21).

  • personality / blurb arielle catanzaro comes from a loving home with two parents and three brothers, all of which she adores and adore her back. family has been such a big deal with her all of her life, always wanting to make them happy and always wanting to take care of them, especially her parents, because of all the years that they spent taking care of her. she's a smart and sometimes entertaining person, always willing to adjust things to make other people happy, though can often regret it. she won't say anything for them to think she's unhappy about it, though. she just likes being adjustable with everything and anything. she can be a little obsessive once she gets her mind on something, which happens the most with her work. she's a creative soul that enjoys writing, and loves the idea of odd things, focusing her mind on the idea of science fiction. once she gets started with something, she becomes obsessed and keeps her mind on track until she finishes, work or personal life included. she loves with her entire heart, putting herself out there so that she can be complete with anyone and everyone, though it comes with a price for the mere fact that she does give parts and pieces of her away, causing her to fall fast and hard with anyone and anything (food, people, places, things, works of art, books, etc). sometimes she can be pretty energetic, though that's not to be confused with positive -- she can tend to be a little pessimistic and overly sensitive with some things. she does enjoy acting, but it wasn't always her passion. she'd always wanted to do something with biology or engineering, perhaps chemistry. she'd always been big on science, which is what she majored in when she went to college and the things that she writes about in her spare time. she likes people, loves meeting new people, and loves to talk about anything and everything with new people.
